Moving from Knowledge into Experience
People are always looking for new teachers and new bits of information; more knowledge to expand their paradigm of reality. As your library of fact and opinion grows, you increase the feeling that you know. While this is beneficial on an intellectual level, it is only half of conscious growth. And sometimes, the curiosity of new information can be a trap.
Most people already have plenty of maps on “how to grow.” What they’re secretly looking for is a quick fix; an easy substitute for hard work. Instead of applying one idea consistently, they bounce. They jump from one idea to the next once the initial enthusiasm wears off. They read the book, attend a seminar and have it all figured it all out. So they move on to the next thing.
Conscious growth focuses on summoning the courage to become the information. Applied with consistency and commitment, your efforts integrate into your being. It becomes the way you are and how you interact in the world.
Challenge and Comfort
When shifting from knowledge to experience, never overwhelm yourself. The rule of thumb is to start small. Small will be relative to your situation. Whatever your goal, learn to balance it between challenge and comfort. You don’t want to be too comfortable, nor too challenged. Too much of either will sabotage growth. The happy middle is a bare-able growing pain. When practiced consistently, your effort becomes effortless; your knowledge becomes your experience.
